If you want to enjoy a little piece of paradise, the idyllic Chapwani Private Island is so delicious that you will not believe it is true. It is a small coral island nearly a kilometer long and 100 meters wide. It is sixteen acres and is surrounded by small coves, sandy bays and crystal clear waters, with a white sand beach down one side. At low tide you can walk around the whole island to explore the small coves and exposed reefs and coves.

Only fifteen minutes by boat, which is just over a mile from the capital of Zanzibar, Stone Town, but you're miles and miles away from his "haste, restlessness and odors.

Privacy and a high level of service are the real function of Chapwani, which has a maximum of twenty people at a time. What this means effectively is "no crowds! As a private island, you will not be disturbed by beach hawkers, or people walking by and looking at you, which is wonderful.

Everyone remaining on Chapwani must ensure transfers are organized. This will be either the airport or seaport. For all guests staying on Chapwani it is necessary to organize a transfer from the airport or port in the Stone Town and across the island by boat. Alternatively, you can get a regular boat transfers every day at 09:00 and 16:30. The boat arrives at the restaurant and leaves of Mercury in front of the old dispensary Stonetown.

You will need Wade calf deep in the ocean off the beach edge and again when you land on the island, so waterproof shoes are useful.

HOUSING

You will be accommodated in one of the ten rooms in five thatched bandas, nestled in the coconut palms, mangrove trees and baobabs. Inside you will find a spacious room with double bed - the traditional Zanzibar canopied with mosquito netting draped over it - the plump pillows are adorned with a hibiscus flower fresh gathered. They are decorated with colorful African prints and furnished with local antiques, and a ceiling fan! There is just enough room for a bed or extra bed.

Basically, a bathroom with sink, shelves, and a separate toilet. Please note the bathrooms are attractive with a sunken bath, but no cap, and a hand open plan shower. It is now solar hot water if there is hot, but remember that since there is no fresh water on the island, and shipped it all the continent, so as not using too much water.

The generator powering the Lodge is off in the evening so that the ceiling fans do not work as well, and you can refresh yourself by opening the banana leaf shutter to let the sea breeze in.

No television, no telephone, no air conditioning, so no disruption of the 21st century, adds to the feeling of disorientation and romance. In the evening, when the generator is turned off, the ceiling fans operate only on their lowest settings. But this should not be too much a problem as there is usually a good breeze from the sea

Outside is a deck with lounge chairs, and just beyond a thatched umbrella with your own chairs. The sea is so close that, at very high tides it virtually turns your terrace. The terrace is a pleasant place to sit and watch the sunset.

You can take your chairs on the beach and find a quiet spot to sunbathe.

SERVICES
