Any suggestions on the preparation work, securing the area in case of fog, etc.???? Never done this before, and can not afford to have done. Detailed instructions or helpful sites would be greatly appreciated!

Go to a specialty paint supplier, where you can get a rust paint, etch and primer coat.

If you are familiar with the fine spray otherwise use a brush Can you remove them and make them into a garage.

If they are really bad, you may need to be sanded. There are a few units available, but you'll have to see if stores have them.

Sand the rust stains worse. Use a metal primer paint, then paint designed for metal as Rustoleum. Your local paint shop can help you.

spray paint Rust-O oil is your new best friend ... You can get it at any Lowes, Home Depot, etc.
