Dr Brown's Sippy Cup

I bought a Dr. Brown `s cup, but nothing comes out when my son tries to drink. I tried myself and can not get anything. Anyone know why?

I have not seen the cups, but if it has the same valve system as the bottles there is usually a white disc that holds the bottles leak. You must remove it before drinking. My mother has always forgot to do with my son.
