What is the best method to use when potty training a chihuahua? I can not train my chihuahua pot three months. I've tried spanking, scolding, put out, but it does not seem to get it. Does anyone have the answer?
Good lord .... I hope you are joking when you say that spanking and scolding?
These type of 'nethods are extremely "old school" and are very, very discouraged now by veterinarians and breeders alike.
This is not the way forward .... not only confuse and scare the poor dog, but they will not go to the toilet in front of you. They are also reluctant in general by going to the toilet because they are afraid.
There are many others, the methods and measure "best" of toilet training your chihuahua.
Many have been mentioned.
Personally, I looked where my chihuahua would go to the toilet for about the 1st week when we had.
There were some places where it would go when she needed to pee or shit.
I put about 2 sheets of newsprint in these areas, and she only returned to these places, all on his own, and went to the bathroom there.
Slowly, I removed some of the newspapers, until the little that was left in the laundry room in this "corner" instead.
She started going to one place to go to the toilet.
I've since replaced the paper with a small test, which for liquids (both texture and smell) of a litter inside.
So I only take the ferry at the end of each day, remove the top layer containing the litter and urinate and shit, flush it and put on another layer of litter.
Takes about 2 minutes .... and there is no mess or odor at all.
But having said that, I know that I was incredibly lucky that the struggle of many people.
I guess it really comes down to your individual dog and what they do best repsond.
For reasons of interest ....
I got my little chihuahua when she was about 8 weeks.
It took about 2 1 / 2 weeks for him to get used to the laundry room for the toilet.
It is currently about 16 weeks.
with my 6 week I take him outside every two hours with a damp cloth and his play on the field and say pot, pot ... go at the same time I gently wash behind with hot water under pressure from the tissue, when she would go potty, tell him what a good dog, she was just gorgeous and praise her. Sometimes it takes some time to urge the jar # 2 hit, then stay out until it actually did something, I can sometimes be very wet or very cold, but I do not give up and did not allow him to go alone outside. Stick with a routine ......
I asked this question a few hours ago because I'm training my chihuahua pot too. The best answer I have received so far was cash of course. The thing with my puppy while it is out of his cage for most of the day, then go into the house when he wants. Then someone told him back in his cage when your too busy to watch. I do not really think about it because I'm at home, why fund it. It makes sense though. I'm not sure what your situation, but I think we are giving too much freedom too quickly. He needs to win by doing good, and we just have not done that.
The best way to train a puppy is using the cash method. When you use this method, you must make cash home puppy and safe area. If you put a bed in the cage with a blanket, he will learn to love it. If you do not use a crate now, it will probably be crying when he is first. Make sure to feed in the cage and put a lot of toys there and in one week, he will love. Get out of the cage every 2-3 hours and take him immediately outside until he uses the bathroom. It may take time to understand himto but a dog will not use the BA course.
