Sewing for baby gift newborn? I'd do anything for my nephew when he was born. I thought a quilt, but it is embroidery. I've never done embroidery, cross stitch, nothing before, but I sewed before. I want something really cute that he can have for the rest of his life. Does anyone have any ideas? Should I get a package of embroidery and practice on the little something or what? Please help.
My MIL made my son a hat on a head Hanker. Inside was a note. and I do not remember the hole is, but it was something he was to give this gift to his wife on their wedding day because he once wore on his head.
the idea was very cute and he is now set aside until the day he chose a wife. (It is 2 LOL)
Sew Beautiful magazine is full of ideas! Yes, you should get a cheap kit and practice.
I love sewing and making gifts baby all the time. I also do embroidery. I recently made a baby blanket for my nephew too. "I brought a piece of bright green polo fleece fabric, then I embroidered glossy all animals it (horses, dogs and cats) as a model" I brought a coloring book that had animal pictures in it-i traced these animals in the fabric, then embroidered on the use of simple stem stitch (one of the stitches is easier). After the embroidery was finished, I used a nice soft cotton green fabric as a backing on the cover.
I'm in Australia and our local stores projectors have a wide variety of fabrics, simple patterns and embroidery kits to get you started, some stores even carry embroidery and sewing other courses of Crafts /.
Take a look and see if there is a sewing craft store near you that can help you and provide some sort of advice.
Before starting work on the embroidery of your nephew, I recommend you practice areas you will use on a piece of scrap fabric that is the same material as what you are going to donate them off. This way you can practice and improve your score first and get an idea of the material and embroidery thread, (you can also work to ensure that the colors appear on the embroidered fabric)
this other than I did for my own children and nephews and nieces are handmade-teddy bears, rag dolls, christening dresses, patchwork and handmade rattles and sleeping bags.
There are a wide variety of models availalbe on the internet for help and some even come with step by step, just do a search on Yahoo or Google handmade baby gifts or similar.
Some towns have craft or sewing groups that are run from the local community center, community college, hall, etc. i have generally found that these groups often contain many experienced women who are always willing to help others and teach them sewing techniques or boats, have a peek and see if there's one near you that you can join.
good luck I'm sure your nephew and family will appreciate the charming gift and nice
